Kinda Sorta a Bad Idea
Never write kinda or sorta in an essay.
There's not much to clarify with that statement. Just don't do it. Ever.
Why not?
Two reasons:
- Kinda and Sorta aren't words. They aren't even real contractions. When you write kinda or sorta, you are smooshing kind of and sort of together to make it look the way it sounds when we say them quickly in casual conversation. Casual conversation has no place in a formal essay.
- Even if they weren't casual, they are weak. Rather than saying something is kind of bad, just come out and say it is bad. Avoid wishy-washy language whenever possible. Be confident and assertive in your writing.
